work in progress revealed

This is the necklace I have been sharing glimpses of. A piece I have made for myself, which was inspired by Nina Bagley, who is pure inspiration. A bit of sari silk ribbon, some linen ribbons that I made, adorned with copper, jade, carnelian, moonstone, serpentine and chalcedony.

The focal is the casing of an old pocket watch. I have replaced the missing glass with paper, ink and resin. I still need to finish up the resin work, but I wanted to share this today.

While I love the sari ribbon, I really don't wear such bright colours. I love to wear linen, so I decided to make some ribbon to suit my personal style. I like them so much that I definitely will be incorporating these into some of my jewelry.
I also included two resin paddles featuring the words: "find" "balance". These were gifted to me by Mary Jane as part of a trade and I wanted to include them in a very personal piece.

Most of you will remember the first mended heart I created back in January. I will be keeping this one and have finished it with another handpainted linen ribbon.

Hope you are all having a wonderful Monday!

Oh, Renate, this makes me swoon! While these are all the colors I cannot wear, they always trigger such a feeling of earthy connection in me, of depth and calm. Simply stunning and I bet they'll look gorgeous on you!! What a gifted artist you are!! Much love, Silke

Lovely necklaces Ren ! The first one with the old watch, exactly your colours and a beautiful tribute to the great Nina Bagley.
Love the second one too with its simplicity.

That is a stunning design. It has so much personal meaning, and the colors are so fresh. I am a bit shy of color too but that is my goal this year to shake things up in the color department. Beautiful work! Enjoy the day, Renate! Erin

gorgeous renate - your linen is beautiful... while it may be inspired by nina, it is decidedly yours... you internalized the aesthetic and it evolved and grew... we are influenced by so many beautiful things that we see, what matters is how it speaks to you.... and these speak loud and clear... i love the subtle color in your piece... so natural...

Beautiful work Renate. Love them. The texture, the hand work, colors, all of it. I like the layered look of the piece, and it is so earthy, just lovely on both. Great eye candy for a Monday. Hugs, Riki

I love how you've combined the wire wrapped stand with the fabric strand, attaching them both to the focal. Really appealing juxtaposition of textures. Love your color scheme as well--strong colors but still soft, and so nice with the copper. Your pocket watch idea was a stroke of genius! I like the idea of taking what is usually considered a man's accessory and turning it into something so feminine. Makes me want to run home and make something with ribbon!

Gorgoeus, gorgoeus, gorgoeus. I love your linnen. Makes me want to try that myself although I love the vibrant colors of the recyceled saris. Nina Bagley is just awesome!
