Garden exhibition in the fortress

Yesterday, we went to a garden exhibition, at Burg Trausnitz - a fortified castle which originally dates back to the early Middle Ages (1150 A.D.). It is situated on top of a hill, as is to be expected and is surrounded by a fortress wall.

Well, let's just say I found the site much more impressive than the exhibits. But the castle was well worth visiting!

Inside the fortress, looking towards the castle.

Inside the fortress - this may have been a maut at some time.

The fortified outer wall.

Looking through a gateway at the outer wall.

View from the burg to the city and the river Isar below.

Isn't this a cool window?

There were such interesting architectual details everywhere.

I love visiting such old buildings, rich with the energy of past inhabitants. It's always nurturing to the imagination.

that pegasus is spectacular... do you get energized from being in a place where people have walked for more than a millenium? i could get lost in history - make it art/architectural history and i am a goner!

What a wonderful Sunday outing Hermanita!!

Do you suppose that Rupunzel shuttered the window so she could shampoo her hair in anticipation of a gentleman caller?? :) It's to bad the Garden Exhibit wasn't so great. With just a bit of imagination it could have been so cool!!Especially with the beautiful backdrop provided by the castle and grounds!!!

It just amazes me - all that history so many hundreds of years ago you get to enjoy...if it is 150 years old here it is really old!
Your pictures are wonderful

Oooo, how fun! I love those kinds of old buildings in Europe! If the walls could talk...

Seems like we are both on a "cleaning things out" spree. Today, I attacked my studio and the mountain of papers on my desk that had to be filed. Feels good...

Here's to clear spaces and clear minds!! Love, Silke

Renate, I love it when you share pictures of the local attractions. I really miss those days, wandering around different villages with my family - and especially the old castles. These pictures really remind me of my teenage years in Germany. Looks like such a nice outing. :-)

Thank you for sharing this beautiful castle with us...we don't have anything like this here in the States so it's so fun to see.

The artwork for sale is beautiful...I can imagine them in my garden.
