New tool and rethinking

I know - you thought I had fallen off the planet. It has been awhile since I posted. Sorry about that! I have been trying to figure out where I am headed - re-evaluating what I have been doing and where I want to go with my jewelry. Will have to wait and see if all this thinking has gotten me anywhere.

Then, the other evening, my rotary tool died - and left me sitting in my studio in the dark. With a cat underfoot. Not a good combination. Anyway - I went out and got a new rotary tool.

My new hanging motor with a flexible shaft! I hope this will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I have also been thinking about my jewelry photos - I want them to be better, more evocative...
Trying something new - different perspectives, different backgrounds.

A pair of earrings in the works: silver, copper and peridot.

Mom and I love our flex shaft, so I hope you have a beautiful relationship! I like the layout of the photos with the small petals and the different angles of the jewelry.

Oh My! Whatever you're doing, keep doing it! I love the colors in your new pieces ... the photos are stupendous ... love the stones ... Renate, everything is so appealing! I can't say enough good things about it ... the props are great, the clarity is wonderful, which all shows the beautiful jewelry off to its best advantage!

Your photos were very good before and now, well, I find them stunning and moody and they just make me want to touch all of those beautiful pieces you've made. It's lovely to hear from you and see what you've been up to.

I think the photos look beautiful.... I'm in love with the copper and green (aquamarine) necklace, beautiful! I know nothing of tools like that, best of luck with it! My paintbrushes are as high-tech as I get!

Great job with the new photos - I love the little scattering of petals with the earring in the first one especially!

Hi there -- lovely to see you as always! ;-) At first I read that you wanted your jewelry itself to be more beautiful and evocative, and I thought, it's already so awesome! But (upon reading more closely) I understand about the photos; you do a really nice job, for the record. If you have a bit of money to spend on post-processing software (less than $100; I think more like $70 or $80) and already have Photoshop, I highly recommend Topaz Labs' Detail 2 plug-in; it really amps up the detail and color, and you can play with the settings to get just the effect you want. Feel free to email me if you want more info; I was thinking of doing a blog post on it anyway because it has helped my photo processing so much. But again, your photos are already beautiful and show your creations off very nicely!

Oh while I love getting new tools, I often miss the comfortableness of my old ones. I have a flex shaft for my dremel but I'm ashamed to admit I've never used it.

Really like the direction of your new pictures. I think it helps to have a kind of connectivity in a shop and pictures can really help create that.

holy cow! that is a serious piece of machinery! i think i was hooked up to one of those in a hospital room once. can't wait to see what you do with it.

also waiting in suspense to hear about your new jewelry directions!

i love your flower petals, what a great idea! wonderful lighting and organic-feeling background on your new photos. I like the oblique angle. (I thought your photos before were awesome too!) Sometimes you just want a change.

I see what you mean about the photos, Renate. These have that "something special" quality about them that make you want to take a closer look at the jewelry. This is a great change to make. It makes your wonderful jewelry even more wonderful to look at!

Hi Renate.
Thanks for stopping over at my place and leaving your lovely comment. I know exactly what you mean as I pondered those same issues too and why I started a new blog, physically changing the hard copy record of my direction. I hope you are coming to some realisation of your future path.
Your work has always appealed and those earrings, I bought from you, are testimony to that.
I always thought your photos presented your work well, however we are always our own worst critics.
Your new tool looks impressive - I didn’t realise Dremel also made this style of of rotary tool.
Happy days to you.

Hermanita,

I'm sitting here as green as any of the plants in my little art corner!!! I'm thinkin that I now understand what the word swooning means!

Good for you sometimes we just have to stop and listen to see the path we should be exploring!! I have always admired your ability to photograph you pieces in pleasing positive ways. But these new photos are amazing. They really lend an ethereal backdrop to your art. Complementing it's uncomplicated grounded and romantic feelings. Your pieces have always made one feel as if the world of faeries, dreams, and magic "ofcourse does exist" These new photos are proof that this other world is real and your creations are mearely the bridge between the two. I can't wait to see more!!

gorgeous new photos and jewelry, Renate! I think you have been busy and figuring things out for yourself, that is so grand. I am very partial to the silver, copper & peridot earring you shared with us. yum! I do not know what a rotary tool does, not working with jewelry much, but you seem to have really found a good match for your beautiful art. Be happy & continue!
