Sunday flea market

It has gotten cold again - but this time, without the snow. As a result - the flea market was, again, underpopulated, both by sellers and visitors. I almost came home empty handed today - which does happen sometimes. Although I did see something I have been coveting - an antique domino set, the game pieces made of ebony and bone. But way out of my price range. Actually, I am not even coveting a whole set - I would just like to find a couple of orphan pieces made of bone. A set would just defeat the purpose - I would never dare take a piece to make jewelry out of it, from a complete set.

I didn't find much today - just a bit of lace and a rhinestone brooch.

I think this lace collar was still in the original box - which reads:
Bergdorf Goodman, On the Plaza, 5th Avenue, New York.

Love the pale green and pale blue rhinestones in this brooch.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday!

Those blues and greens say Renate to me! Beautiful. I remember older women wearing similar collars like that to church. I thought they were very elegant. Although, I am pretty sure I wouldn't wear one now.

The brooch is lovely, but I absolutely love the lace collar! What are your plans for it? Flea markets can be fun, especially when you find a treasure. Take care, Connie

Wow - diesen Spitzenkragen ist unglaublich. Was ein Fund und dann auch noch in der Orignalverpackung. Und die Brosche ist traumhaft. Solch wunderschöne Farben.

What fun Hermanita!!

Think of all the wonderful stories you can imagine on how the lace collar & when it came to be in your little corner of the world!! Hmmmm maybe during the war or maybe in the 50s when...

You know dominos is a national pass time here. There are domino clubs, coffee shops, whole rooms of tables in restaurants devoted to dominos. But public dominos is still a very very all male dominated world. A woman would no more walk in and join a game then she would walk into a Cantina. But they do play dominos at home and at women's lunchens instead of bridge! :) I'll start watching for orphans for you. Although most of the dominos here are carved from stone, quartz and agate.

Stay warm Hermanita, if it's any help it is also muy frio here!!! The nights have been getting in the 40s so that our brick houses are staying around 50-55 all day. That's a mite cold when there is no heat in the house!! So I guess it's true what they say about it all being relative :)

Hello Renate
Lovely treasures, even if it was cold and spartan out today! It is amazing how the collar made its way to Germany from NY...I'd love to know who owned it and the story behind it, makes one wonder. :-)
The brooch is so beautiful, some of my favorite colors there! Thanks for sharing your finds with us!

Browsing through the market can be so exciting even if you only find a few things to bring home with you. I love the lace collar and the broach - love the colors of the rhinestones.

It's always a hit or miss this time of year with the weather putting the vendors off their schedules. Come on Spring!!! Hugs - Julie

I say you hit the jackpot Renate. The vintage lace made my heart stop! And the collar from Bergdorf's is an amazing find in itself!! Like Cindy said....how did that get all the way to Germany~amazing =))

it may not be much but they are gorgeous!! my sunday jaunt to the flea market was similar -- lots of lace and doilies. other than that, all i found was a small pile of vintage bottles. nothing as pretty as you've found! i agree with diane -- i think you hit the jackpot indeed. :)
