Sunday flea market not available due to...

this! Just wanted to show you what it looks like here. Hey, I heard that! I heard you say it was beautiful.

Well, I will get it all loaded on to a few trucks and have it sent over to you. No, no need to thank me. My pleasure...

If only I could get rid of it that easy. It was minus 10°C this morning. And since there was no really interesting flea market scheduled today, I decided to keep my toes warm and stay in the house. I mean, even one of my cats came in from outside this morning and almost wiped out going around the corner, in his hurry to get to the litter box. So it apparently too cold to take care of business outside. Hmmm. It must be colder than I thought.

I am feeding the birds, as I do every winter. This little guy is a robin. Very different from the American robin. This is sort of the original thing. Tiny little bird. But so cute.

It is hard to get a decent picture through the kitchen window. And for some strange reason, they refuse to all come round and peck at the seeds when I am standing outside. I wonder why? I have a multitude of sparrows, chickadees, titmice (is that the plural of titmouse? I wonder), finches, blackbirds, thrushes and other birds that I don't know the English names of .

Today, I borrowed my husband's camera to try to get some decent pictures of some of the birds. My camera just can't do it. This is a woodpecker in the pear tree. He likes peanuts.
I am still waiting for the partridge to turn up. We had a pheasant two years ago. Does that count?

Several of these large jay-like birds come to the feeders - they are also fond of the peanuts. They are called Eichelhäher - which could be (kinda-sorta) translated to acorn jay. A very shy bird, slightly smaller than a crow, and this is the first photo I have been able to shoot that wasn't just a blur.

They are predicting more s-word this afternoon and tomorrow. Maybe I should hibernate?

Hope you are all having a lovely Sunday, with or without the s word.

Snow may keep us in a bit, making us want to stay by the fire, but it does transform outside beautifully! Your snow is deeper than mine, but at least I have some and I'm feeding the birds too!

Yes, it looks so beautiful looking at it from within, but I am no longer thrilled with inches of it! Luckily we haven't had more than an inch so far this season.

Love the photo you snapped of the woodpecker - way cool!

That is just too much damned snow! I love to watch the birds though ... I have bird feeders too. I remember when my daughter was 3, we had just moved into a new house with a bird feeder ... our first experience. She came running into the kitchen and stammered out in excitement, "Mom, there's a ... a ... a fird in the fird beeder!" She's 26 now! I also have a friend ... don't know if you remember the "Bead Whore" story on my blog, but she said to me one day, "I'm a pervert ... I like to watch the birdies take a bath!" Love the photos ... they brought back so many great memories for me!

Oh man....it is beautiful. But PLEASE don't send it over to me! I think snow should exist solely in the North Pole, and okay, Antartica, too. And then people who love that stuff can go live there, and take plenty of photos to share with the rest of the world. Because it's pretty in pictures. We're supposed to get some snow tonight/tomorrow as well, here in Maine...and I'm not looking forward to it!

That is a lot of snow. I understand that you don't usually get so much. Keep warm. I was so interested to see your birds. They are so different from the ones that come to our feeder. Love that little robin. And your acorn jay is so gorgeous. So glad you shared their phots with us.

I always say I want to spend more time at home, but them when a snow storm comes through I feel desperate to get out...why is that? No need to truck the snow here, we got some too, though not nearly that much. Stay in and create by a nice warm fire!

That is some snow Renee, and I would have to agree at this point it is not looking gorgeous to me, BUT, the snow as a backdrop to the birds is incredible. I would endure the snow to stand with those birds...ha! They are all so beautiful, but the humble little robin is gorgeous! Stay warm my friend...sending hugs!

oh renate . . . i know you don't like it! But look at all the beautiful birds you have. So pretty, all of them. There are much different birds now for me, living in Florida. Stay warm, keep the fires burning!

Goodness, that's a lot of snow and minus 10C is brrrrr, cold. It just seems too early for this. The bird photos are lovely and I hope one day your partridge shows up for you especially if it's the first day of Christmas.

The snow looks so lovely in the photos, but I know it must be very very cold and nasty. What lovely photos of birds you have though. I'm so glad you are feeding them in this cold weather.

Yes it is beautiful-No I don't want any. We'll have ours soon enough. I love the picture with the birds. Can't wait till the birds discover my feeder. right now, I'm using black seeds and they don't show up on black pavement. After the snow, I can scatter them and they will come. Have a great week!

Very chilly indeed...good choice to stay home today and enjoy your birds. I really like the one that resembles our Blue Jay, he is very handsome.

oh! these pictures reminded me so much of the ones we took our first winter in the US! back in Uruguay we dont get snow so we took pictures of how it seemed to grow cylindrically over chairs and barbecues to send to the folks back home. I was only 5 or so and had expected it to have the consistency of clouds. I remember being so excited when my sisters and i discovered we could eat it. wow, what a rush of silly happy memories...

Wow, Renate that is a LOT of snow. A LOT! We'd be shut down here if we had snow that deep. You're so sweet to feed the birds -love the pictures you shared. I'm a big bird watcher too. Right now I can see the birds that flock to my neighbor's bird feeder. We need to unpack ours and start a new tradition here....

Thank you, Renate, for sharing these amazing pictures with us! We didn't have so much snow. Everything was white though, but the snow only was about 2 inches high.

it all looks like a beautiful winter wonderland! so sweet of you to care for our feathered friends, I too make sure they have plenty to eat all winter and I do so love watching them! thank you for your kind words on my last post.

Renee the birds are so beautiful, you are so fortunate to have such lovely birds to watch and photograph. Very interesting, your robin is much prettier than ours I think and the jay is wonderful, are they as aggressive as ours. I chase them away because they are nest robbers.
Hope you can dig out!
Many blessings

While you may not be crazy about having so much snow, you must admit it is so very beautiful! Rumor has it that'll we'll be getting a lot soon too here in Michigan. Admittedly, I am looking forward to it. I love your photos, thanks for sharing. Best wishes to you and yours for this Holiday season!

Renate, I especially liked the puffy seats of snow on your patio chairs! I know, I know we say we love it....but I don't think I would love it ~ that much either!
I do love all the birds you are feeding, and especially loved seeing the woodpecker! Now those guys are hard to catch a shot of! We have what are called Green Jays (in South Texas at our deer camp), which I love to watch but have yet to get a good shot of them! They are fast and don't like their pictures taken at all!!
Stay warm my friend~~~

Hi!! Just came snooping from Pattie's blog.

I'd almost forgotten about the snow. It's starting to get cold here, too. Today's forcast says a high of 26 C. Giggle. We have to go to a Christmas party this afternoon; on the beach!

By the way, strawberries (fresas) are a huge cash crop here. We get them at the central market within a day of their picking at their peak. Pattie usually digs into them on the way home, and we only live 15 minutes away. The girl just can't wait.
