...the weather outside is frightful...

A few weeks ago, Diane of Rosa & Josie's kindly sent me some beautiful brass filigrees to play with, along with a copy of Artful Blogging that she was in, because she knew I didn't have access to the magazine here - thank you again, Diane - you sweet and thoughtful woman! I am sure most of you know Diane and her beautiful jewelry (if not, hop right over to her blog - she is also a very talented photographer).
Inspired by Diane's style - I decided to create a piece with one of the brass filigrees as a tribute to her. This is what I came up with.

The focal is layered with the brass filigree, silk rod, vintage lace, a vintage image and mica.

The necklace was created using brass chain, Czech glass, rhinestone rondelles, vintage chandelier crystals, more vintage lace and textile forget-me-nots. I created the clasp using a vintage glass cabochon and brass filigree.

I know I haven't been posting very regulary lately.I seem to be caught in an endless loop of waking up to find more fresh snow - which needs to be shoveled away. So that I can get my car onto the slippery road. Driving anywhere requires more time than usual. This is what my world looks like right about now. I will have to go out and shovel some more snow - second time today.

The birds are hungry, because the deep snow has buried everything edible. I even have to clear a space beneath the pear tree in the yard, so that the bird seed I put out does not just disappear.

Even a few thrushes (I think these - the grey ones with the lighter coloured belly - front, center and far right - are juniper thrushes) have joined the multitude that feed in my yard.

I really like the two sidedness of the focal. I think the icy blues in this necklace must be a reflection of your winter world. So much snow! Lucky birds that they have you looking after them. Hope your kitties are staying warm.

Beautiful necklace!
Aside from you having to shovel all that snow, it looks beautiful!
Winter is my favorite time of year.

Such a gorgeous necklace, Renate! It looks so dreamy... And that snow!! I am glad it's only cold here - I don't miss the snow very much. I enjoy one day of it once in a while, but not so much of it... Makes it very Christmassy though, doesn't it? Stay warm!! Love, Silke

The necklace is georgeous, Renate! I love the bright blue colour you have chosen - and what a stunning focal!
Though we have tons of it again, this year, I still love the snow and enjoy all the white.
Our deer is back - last winter, it jumped almost every morning into the rabbit's vivarium and ate all the hay, while its friends waited in our neighbour's garden. This morning it was back for the first time. I tried to take a photo of it, but it was too dark, and I didn't want to use the flash light.

Renate, your piece is so vibrant and warm at the same time. The color can make a cloudy day sunny and with the addition of the lace it adds a nice homey warmth. The birds are lucky to have someone that cares so much for them.

I love the pic with the birds feeding...that is wonderful & so is your new necklace! The rest of it.... a nightmare, it sounds like! Once a day to shovel snow is MORE than enough! And just think....winter arrives next week
Keep your chin up & I am guessing there won't be many flea markets coming up. Have a beautiful holiday, Renate!

oh my Renate, so much snow for you to contend with. It is beautiful, but I know how you feel about it!!! The birds are beautiful and you are very kind to help them. I do enjoy your photos of them feeding, fluffing themselves up to keep warm.

The necklace is so interesting and beautiful. The wrapped wire and chandelier parts are my favorite.
stay WARM! xo lenna

The necklace is beautiful, that is more than I can say about your weather. the snow must get tiresome. Thank goodness you are there to take care of the birds!

Beautiful necklace Renate! It is so fun to see how each person puts her own touch and style into using a certain element. I love what you did. And, yes, I must agree with you about sweet, sweet Diane....what a lovely person she is. I have the privilege of calling her friend. A little birdie asked me to thank you for shoveling the snow and feeding them....how special are you. Happy holidays!
