A winters day - in a deep and dark December

I am starting to think this is going to be a winter that will be remembered. Not fondly, no. But it will carve itself into memory. After we had all that snow, the temps went up and it rained. Which caused flooding - because the ground was still frozen and the snow was melting and all that water just didn't have anywhere to go. We aren't affected, as we live on somewhat higher ground, thank goodness.
Last night, the snow set in again. We had about 15 cm by late morning today. It will snow heavily again tonight. And on the weekend, it might rain. And it is only December. We usually have a light snowfall in November, which disappears long before Christmas. The real stuff usually comes in January and February. This year is definitely different. This is what I was looking at this morning.

Sorry about the quality of the photo - it wasn't really light when I took this. Later on, after shovelling snow for over an hour, I didn't really want to take pictures.

Do you realize that Christmas is a mere 2 weeks away? I have been making some angel earrings, but as it has been getting dark rather early, I was only able to take pictures of these two pairs before daylight disappeared (and I don't take pictures of jewelry with the flash):

I want to take a moment to thank you for stopping by and leaving comments on these last posts - you all mean so much to me. Thank you for your continuing support.

I am off to the studio again. There are several ideas in my head that are demanding to be let out.

Gosh, Renate...it looks like a winter wonderland. I can't even imagine what it's like to have to shovel snow..NO THANKS! I hope Mother Nature gives you a break soon. Your earrings are just gorgeous. I love them both!
Warm hugs, Diane

How funny! Our winters here in NW Montana have been the same. Last winter the same November snow sat on the lawn all winter. Usually it will snow heavily in November, and then not much more til February. We're having lots of precip here too; in fact it's been a snow/rain mix for about a week and there's supposed to be more rain coming. I like your festive, vintage looking earrings!

I am alone,/Gazing from my window to the streets below/On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.

The pictures are lovely, but shoveling the snow is another story!

Beautiful earrings!

I feel bad for you with all that snow and cold, I have to drive 3 hours to get to snow! All we have here is rain. I hope your wood supply holds up. Your earrings are beautiful.

Ahhh, we have had below zero wind chills, snow and expecting several more inches this weekend.
I really like your earrings and . . . as soon as I read the title of your post the rest of song started running through my head.:)

It does feel like a winter that will be remembered, here, for very early cold, hope there's no more flooding for you... and lovely work. Thanks for your deeply felt comment on my blog!

Oh Renate, While the snow looks lovely, it would drive me absolutely insane. I need to get out! Hopefully conditions will look up, although it appears to be unseasonably cold everywhere. At least you can lock youself away and create. The earrings are fabulous!

You earrings are lovely! It has been several years since we have had snow in early December and we are suppose to have another 2-4" today. I am so not looking forward to that. Though I do like taking photographs of snow, I sure don't like living with it. I hope you have a wonderful day!

serious magic in the snow, however mundane it may feel as you are hefting it off the walkways!
