I have been trying my hand at a bit of basket weaving with wire. This was my first finished piece...
This morning I decided I was going to give it another try, but on a smaller scale - for earrings. Not that that pendant is big - the basket is maybe 2 inches high and less than an inch in diameter.
But earrings... I made a 'frame' of wire and then began to weave with very thin copper wire (approx. 26ga). After an hour...
I had this... another hour of weaving...
and then another hour...
finished baskets. These are not quite an inch in length.
Finished earrings.
The kittens are doing fine...
and mama looks pretty relaxed - after getting a bigger basket to live in... but wait...
there's more.... another litter, oh my.... well, at least they look healthy and happy...
Wishing everyone a great Sunday and hoping the weather is better than here where ever you are!

beautiful work! i love it
i was curious how baskets might work in earrings - and here you have made quite possibly my favorite pair of renata earrings ever! they are fabulous! you do so many things well, and now weaving is included in that list!
and your little white tigers with their baby blue eyes - so very sweet...
boy how do you price something that takes so long to make? these really are beautiful.
Awesome wire weaving Renate! Wire weaving is one of my favorite things and you seem to have mastered it quite well!
A well rounded artist!
The weaving really is enchanted! Love the earrings especially - do you think you'll put surprises in the baskets in future pieces?
(Love the babies too - my kitty is 19 years old.)
Wow!!Awesome idea and earrings!! xoxo Cat
Your weaving is pretty incredible Renate! The necklace is sooo unique, I just adore it, and the earrings are so inventive, you make such special pieces!
Hugs to you and the kitties with their sweet souls!

I cant find any words......so beautiful!!!!!!
Love the look of weaving! Those earrings are stunning!
S/R - such delicate wire weaving - love the link with the shells and the sea. And of course the kittens are so engaging - so relaxed. Go well. B
You really have some patience!! The earrings turned out beautifully though so I guess it was well worth it. And those kitties. . .too sweet. I just don't need anymore myself, so you need to stop sharing those furry faces before I break down into blubbering baby-talk ;)
Very interesting... it almost seems medieval...like chain mail...I like it. You are so creative and talented. I love popping in to see what you've been up to... I have been away also finishing up some home projects. Hope to be back for a visit soon.
Die Ohrringe sind fantastisch! !!
Thank Renate for visiting my blog and commenting. It was nice to read your soothing words.
The baskets . . . well I dream of making jewellery like that plus the cutest kittens in the world . . . except for mine :)

I have never tried wire weaving but you have inspired me to give it a go one day...I think I shall just have to google it and see what comes up. Love the necklace and ear-rings :o)

Renate, just stopping by to say hello and that I hope you are enjoying the summer so far! By the looks of it, you have a houseful of sweet kittens to warm your heart! They really are adorable. Your new woven wire work is really stunning - you amaze me at all of the new techniques that you create with.
Beautiful! I'm in love with the earrings...and with the kittens! :)
Those are just beautiful! Reminds me of chain mail. Kittens..... who doesn't love kittens!
Your basket earrings are gorgeous! And what a lot of work in them. And those kittens are adorable, just begging for hugs :)
What gorgeous little baskets. I've done weaving with reeds - into baskets...but I can't even start to imagine weaving on such a small scale. Beautiful!
These earrings look terrific Renate. Hope all is well with you & yours.
Regards
Sylvia
