As Midsummer continues ...
Midsummer still has me enthralled and I am working on two more necklaces - for Moth and Cobweb, two more faeries serving Titania. Trying something new and feeling a bit giddy and lightheaded in the process. Wondering where this is going and where will it lead? Does anyone out there start a piece/project with a finished idea? I always just have an element, an initial inspiration. I never know what the finished piece will look like, because I never have a complete concept. Just a beginning... and then I follow where the piece takes me.
I keep thinking, I should know what I am trying to achieve. But I don't. So then, maybe I am not creating these pieces at all. I am just helping them manifest themselves...

There is a whole Midsummer Nights Dream vibe happening around the blogosphere! I just read on Nina Bagley's blog Ornamental that she completed a piece inspired by my favorite play....there is so much to be inpsired by in that tome...the names, the situations, the language...all mesmerizing and full.
Since you asked the question, I will reply...I do sometimes start with a completely formed idea in my head. Sometimes I even sketch it out. It is those sketches that amaze me since I am not good at the 2D art....but I have kept the ones that ended up eerily close to the inspiration drawing. It is the ones that start as a fully formed idea that get derailed that bring me heart ache. I had two last night. One I gave up on because it was sucking my time and my energy. But I will return anew with fresh eyes and ideas again...Thanks for the beautiful photo inspiration. Good luck with your creations! Enjoy the day! Erin
Renate, your photos are so beautiful!! I agree with Erin, I usually have a pretty good idea of what I want the end result to look like, and usually sketch it out also, but it almost ALWAYS changes, but that's usually a good thing!
Renate, I sketch then when I set out to do things it gets changed in the process. I think maybe you are process oriented. I like that! And I like the idea of letting an idea, object, starting point manifesting itself.
What a beautiful photograph!! As for having a fully formed idea for a project...sometimes, but rarely. And then I find even when I do have a fully formed idea, somehow I go off on a tangent and the muse makes the final decision!
Renate I am not a sketcher. I start out with a focal point and it involves from there. I guess those beads really do speak!
The photo is beautiful.
I love the photo of your butterfly. I can't draw so no sketching when I do my fabric pieces. I really have no plan, I just start with the poem and let it take me away. That is the fun for me of creating when it just flows out with no plan in mind. Following a plan makes me uptight because I'm always afraid I'll "mess up".
What a gorgeous photo! I love how you work with your jewelry - it's much like how I work with my paintings. Nothing is really planned, but I get started and then it flows from there. Your pieces are just gorgeous!! :) Silke
Beautiful! Blessings.
I love your butterfly picture.
