Another finished mixed media painting

Secret Garden

Done. Built with layers of colour and plaster and I tried my first image transfer (you were right, Doreen). I wasn't really happy with the result, so I enhanced it with paint and markers and pencils and the piece just went from there; including a little flight of whimsy. I've been working with plaster in my paintings for many years; even before they had all those structure mediums on the market. And I love to sandpaper my paintings to give them a worn aged look. Guess I was a Shabby Chic fan before we knew what that was. This is, as mentioned, a small 8"x8" canvas. I usually do my plaster paintings on wood boards and also usually larger. It is difficult to get satisfactory results in such limited space. The photo is a bit on the blue side, it is actually somewhat more into green. And, apparently keys are on my mind. Maybe I should raid my stash and put some in my jewellery?

Keys are on my mind too lately. It might be because I discovered a whole stash of tiny ones I bought ages ago at a flea market.

The piece has come out well. I love your use of texture. I also love the idea of a secret hidden garden behind a gate. Maybe an enchanted world?

I think this came out quite nicely! Now this is something I may have to give a go this summer, plaster. Haven't tried it for some time. But your Secret Garden is so inviting, makes me want to try!

So gorgeous!! I haven't checked your blog in a couple of days and you've been so prolific. I love this piece - the colors and textures of it - and also the last one with the lovely woman. Very inspiring!! :) Silke

Beautiful, Renate! I love the lock and key and the little critters!

Stunning Renate, I agree with Doreen, I really like the little details of the critters, but my favorite part would be the texture and colors, and that well worn look and feeling it has!

The beauty (and serenity) of this piece makes me want to take that key and unlock the door to this secret garden...it's beautiful Renate.

Keys in your jewellery? I say YES!!

I LOVE this piece, especially the little mouse. I also would like to see your necklaces with keys in them. I like seeing rustic and refined together. By the way you are correct my name is Lorrie.

Greetings Stregata-
Thanks for stopping Treasures Found! I do like that anthem you chose. And I agree that they change over time and throughout your life experiences. Your jewelry is so fresh and lovely, and I love your mixed media work. I don't know how you found me, but I am so glad you did! Oh, and I would definitely concur on the keys comment....that is my logo motif after all! Enjoy the day! Erin
